How to Prepare Your Dog for Boarding

Heading out of town soon? Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a holiday getaway, or a business trip, making sure your dog is set up for success at boarding is key to maintaining your peace of mind and ensuring they have a great time while you’re away. At Hounds Town USA, we make dog boarding feel like a vacation for your pup, complete with all-day play and socialization that will help reduce their separation anxiety while you enjoy your trip.

When you prepare your dog for boarding, you need to get a few things done before drop-off day. To ensure a smooth and stress-free experience, here’s Hounds Town’s dog boarding checklist:

Book Your Dog’s Stay in Advance

Holiday dog boarding spots fill up fast! Secure your pup’s reservation early to guarantee their place in the pack. Find your nearest location and reach out to get them scheduled ahead of time.

Double-Check Required Vaccinations

For the health and safety of every dog boarding at Hounds Town, we require proof of the following vaccines:

  • Rabies
  • Bordetella
  • Distemper (DHPP)

Not sure if your records are current? Contact your vet before arrival so you’re ready for check-in with no delays.

Pack Your Dog’s Regular Food

A sudden diet change can lead to stomach problems, especially when your dog is in a new environment, which is why we request that you prepare your dog for boarding by packing their regular food. Bring enough food to last their full stay, plus an extra day or two just in case travel plans change. If you forget food, don’t worry! Hounds Town provides house food if needed.

Keep Sick Pups Home

If your dog is showing symptoms of illness, such as coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, please keep them comfortable at home until they’re feeling better. This helps protect the pack and ensures your pup can return to dog boarding and daycare when they are able to fully enjoy playtime.

Get Ready for the Hounds Town Hangover

At Hounds Town, dogs play all day in our natural pack environment, getting tons of physical and mental stimulation. This means that when you pick them up from holiday dog boarding, they’ll likely have what we like to call a Hounds Town Hangover.

After pickup, don’t be surprised if your pup:

  • Drinks more water
  • Sleeps deeply after returning home
  • Seems extra relaxed the next day

Preparing for boarding doesn’t have to be stressful, especially when you choose a daycare designed exclusively for dogs to be dogs. Hounds Town keeps your dog safe, active, and surrounded by their pack while you’re away. Find your local Hounds Town and reserve their spot today!
