4 Outdoor Activities for Pet Owners and Their Dog

Apr 17, 2023

Spring is here; as the weather warms up and the days grow longer, it’s the perfect time to get outside with your furry best friend. April is Active Dog Month, which encourages dogs and their owners to get active.

Here at Hounds Town, we’re all about creating a fun and active environment where dogs can play 365 days a year. Here are a few activity ideas you and your pup can do together, both this month and beyond:

Tour the Town

Take advantage of the warmer weather and explore some new parts of your town. Going on a long walk or run is great for energetic dogs who have a lot of energy to burn. Make sure to bring water for both you and your pup – especially on those hotter days.

Play Fetch

Throwing a ball or frisbee is a classic activity that dogs of all ages and breeds love. Dogs not only love to retrieve items, but fetch also improves your dog’s fitness, speed, and coordination. You can play fetch at a local park, beach, or in your own backyard.

Practice Some Agility Training

Agility training is a great way to challenge your dog’s coordination and speed. It involves setting up an obstacle course that your dog must navigate through, including tunnels, jumps, and weave poles. You can set up a course in your backyard or find a local agility training class.

Stay Cool at the Pool

With hotter days ahead, many pups love getting in the water to cool down. Swimming is a great low-impact workout that is perfect for dogs with joint issues or recovering from an injury. Whether your dog loves to swim or splash in the shallows, don’t forget to closely supervise your dog and use a life vest if necessary.

Active Dog Month is the perfect reminder to get out and explore new activities with your dog. At Hounds Town, we believe that keeping your dog active and engaged is essential for their physical and mental well-being. So, whether you choose to go walking, swim, or play fetch, make sure to spend some quality time with your dog this month.

If you’re looking for more ways for your dog to stay active while you’re away during the day, check out Hounds Town’s doggy daycare. Our interactive doggie daycare is designed to allow your dog to play all day with other pups in a pack environment. After spending the day in our dog daycare with friends, your pup will be ready for a good night’s rest.
