National Dog Month, also known as DOGust, takes place every August—and at Hounds Town, we’re celebrating all dogs all month long. DOGust was created to recognize the important role that dogs play in our lives, while shining a spotlight on shelter dogs and the need for adoption. It’s a time to raise awareness around the millions of dogs in shelters still waiting for their forever homes.
This month is a chance for pet parents and Hounds Town team members alike to honor our canine companions and our Townie community. We believe the best way to celebrate is with all day play at our doggy daycare! Whether it’s your dog’s first day or their fiftieth, DOGust is the perfect time to let dogs be dogs.
From encouraging healthy social behavior to helping reduce separation anxiety and destructive habits, National Dog Month reminds us just how much dogs benefit from time spent with their pack.
What is National Dog Month?
National Dog Month— initially established in 2020— celebrates the bond between people and dogs, bring awareness to the ongoing need for shelter dog adoption, and generally celebrates the joy that dogs bring us every day. At Hounds Town, we live that mission year-round, but during August, we go all in. With all-day interactive daycare, zero breed or ability discrimination, and our natural pack play dog daycare, we create a space where dogs can thrive, grow, and just be themselves.
How Can I Celebrate National Dog Month?
It’s always important to take time and recognize our loyal companions. Here are a few ideas of how our Townies love to celebrate:
- Enjoy a nice, long walk with your pup! If it’s too hot or rainy, you can always ensure your dog still gets their zoomies out with a day of climate-controlled indoor play at Hounds Town.
- Volunteer at a local shelter or donate supplies that are needed. By helping dogs who are still looking for their forever homes, you’re contributing to their overall well-being and giving back locally. Most shelters have lists of accepted donation items on their website.
- Give your pup a doggy spa day at Hounds Town. After a day of play, your dog can come home tired, clean, and ready to sleep off their Hounds Town Hangover. If you’re looking for some extra pampering, we also offer add-on services like nail trims, teeth brushing, and more.
- Visit a local pet bakery or bake some homemade treats. Biscuits, pup-cups, or pupcakes with peanut butter are always great ways to add a little something special to your dog’s day.
How Hounds Town is Celebrating DOGust
This month, we’re inviting new customers to join the pack and celebrate National Dog Month with us, Hounds Town style! We’re encouraging all new Townies to share their pup’s Play-By-Play report card on Instagram and Facebook, using the hashtag #HoundsTownHangover, and tagging their local Hounds Town. At the end of the month, one lucky winner from each location will be randomly selected to receive a free 5-pack of daycare!
Want to celebrate DOGust with Hounds Town? Here’s how:
- Schedule your dog’s first day at your nearest Hounds Town before August 31st
- Snap a photo of their Play-By-Play report card (you’ll receive after your pup’s first day!)
- Share the photo on social media with the hashtag #HoundsTownHangover
- Tag your local Hounds Town
If you’re already a Townie and you want to join in the fun, you can celebrate DOGust, too! Share a picture of your pup with the hashtag #HoundsTownHangover and tag your local Hounds Town to be entered into the giveaway.
