5 Tips to Plan Your Dog’s Summer Vacation

May 08, 2025

At Hounds Town, we believe your dog deserves a summer vacation just as much as you do—one filled with enough playtime and socialization to ensure that they come home tired and fulfilled. Our summer dog boarding experience gives every dog a chance to thrive in a natural, pack-based environment. When you leave your pup behind this summer while you go on vacation, you deserve to know that they’re getting the activity and attention they need.

Headed out of town as the weather warms up? Here are five tips to help you plan the perfect dog boarding vacation, so you can enjoy a stress-free trip.

1. Book Early—Boarding Spots Fill Up Fast!

Summer is one of our busiest seasons at Hounds Town, so be sure to prepare for your trip by reserving your dog’s boarding spot. To secure your pup’s spot, we recommend booking well in advance—especially around popular travel weekends and holidays. Your future self (and your dog) will thank you.

2. Schedule a Daycare Drop-In Before the Trip

Especially if your dog has never spent the night away from home before, they’ll benefit from getting acclimated to a new environment beforehand. One of our top dog boarding tips is to make sure they’re familiar with the space. A day or two of doggy daycare before their overnight stay helps them adjust to the environment, meet their new pack, and get used to new smells.

3. Pack the Essentials (We’ll Handle the Rest)

We provide the care, playtime, and comfy sleeping quarters—just send your pup with enough food for their stay. We prefer to feed dogs their regular kibble to prevent upset stomachs, although we have extra food on hand if needed! If your dog has specific medications, just let us know, and we’ll make sure they’re taken care of during their stay (for no extra fee!).

4. Choose the Right Accommodations

After a full day of pack play, your dog will need a place to rest and recharge. We offer both private townhomes and upgraded luxury suites, so whether your pup prefers a quiet retreat or a little extra room to stretch out, we’ve got you covered. Have two dogs staying with us? We can board them together if you would prefer.

5. Be Prepared to Have a Tired Pup on Your Hands

Just like humans feel tired at the end of vacation, your dog will be tired when they come back from boarding with us. It’s completely normal for your dog to have a Hounds Town Hangover when they get home, causing them to want a little extra sleep. Playing in a natural pack environment for several days is a great way for your dog to get out their extra energy.

At Hounds Town, we give dogs the vacation they want—one that lets them run, play, rest, and be themselves in a space designed with canine psychology in mind. While you’re soaking up the sun this summer, your dog will be enjoying their own summer dog boarding. Ready to plan your dog’s getaway? Find your nearest Hounds Town location and book today!
