Hounds Town Farmingdale Raises a Beer to Bulls and Boxers

Aug 13, 2019

Dog daycare Hounds Town – Farmingdale threw a fundraising event called Bullies, Boxers, and Beers at the Brewers Collective Beer Company in Bay Shore, New York.  On Saturday, August 3, guests enjoyed drinks, raffles, and music, all while raising money for breeds in need. Hounds Town Charities and Hounds Town USA donated proceeds from the charity event to Get a Bull, Pit Bull Rescue & Advocacy and  Adopt a Boxer Rescue.

To celebrate these two extraordinary rescues, here are six things you might not know about boxers and bulls.

Boxers actually rank in the top 10 of most popular dogs in the United States, and even a few celebrities call them their best friend too. Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Hugh Jackman, and Jennifer Love Hewitt have all been spotted out and about with these beauties.

Boxers delivered messages and transported supplies during World War II for the Germans. They were even capable of search and find missions for injured soldiers. American troops liked them so much that they too ended up using the cute wrinkled pups.

According to the American Kennel Club, boxers are great with kids. They love being a part of a family, and they are patient dogs which helps with the unpredictable nature of children. It also make them superior service dogs. Score!

Pit Bulls

The Pit Bull is not an officially recognized dog breed by the American Kennel Club. There are several different breeds that fall under the category of “Pit Bull” including Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the American Pit Bull Terrier.

Pit Bulls do NOT have locking jaw mechanisms in their teeth. This is an urban myth. Their bite force is actually LESS powerful than their German Shepherd and Rottweiler counterparts, according to a National Geographic study. Dog behavior is learned, so training and socialization is important for all dog breeds, whether you have a Pit Bull or a Pekingese.

Celebrities like Kaley Cuoco, Alicia Silverstone, Katherine Heigl, and Jon Stewart all have Pit Bulls or Pit Bull mixes, and they frequently advocate for the misunderstood breed.

Hounds Town USA has a strict policy against breed discrimination in its facilities. In addition, it encourages each and every one its franchisees to work with rescues and local charities to help breeds in need.
