Shelter Me Aids HT-Charities in Spreading the Word on Newly-Launched Handcuffs to Heeling Program
Pet care site Shelter Me recently posted a profile about Hounds Town Charities’ Handcuffs to Heeling program, in an effort to help the charity get the six dogs in the program adopted. The program pairs homeless dogs from a local municipal shelter with inmates from a local correctional facility with the goal of teaching the inmates how to train the dogs in basic obedience. The inmates will also learn about dog grooming, caring for the dog, and will receive a certification in pet CPR and emergency procedures. At the conclusion of the six-week training program, the dogs will be up for adoption to the local community.
Handcuffs to Heeling is part of Hounds Town Charities, a 501c3 founded by Michael Gould–a former canine handler for the Nassau County and NYPD police department–with the goal of rehabilitating people through animals. Gould also owns pet care franchise Hounds Town USA–a doggie daycare, overnight dog boarding, and pet grooming facility on Long Island. The doggie daycare franchise has five locations.
